The Manjimup Brook 1 site (site code: DR199MANJ1/6081067), was assessed on several occasions:

  • 20-21 February 2017 (fish and crayfish not assessed, as it was too shallow, visual observations only taken)
  • 17-18 August 2020
  • 18-19 August 2020
  • 19-20 August 2020
  • 13-14 October 2020
  • 1-2 December 2020

Only aquatic biota was assessed, using the standard methods from the South West Index of River Condition.

Fish and crayfish

Six fish and two crayfish species were found during the assessments:

  • Bostockia porosa (Nightfish)
  • Galaxiella munda (Western mud minnow)
  • Galaxias occidentalis (Western minnow)
  • Nannoperca vittata (Western pygmy perch)
  • Gambusia holbrooki (Eastern gambusia)
  • Perca fluviatilis (Redfin perch)
  • Cherax sp. nov. 3
  • Cherax preissii (Koonac)

Cherax sp. nov. 3 is a potential new species yet to be described, morphologically similar to Cherax preissii.

The presence of the western mud minnow is of ecological significance and a conservation priority.

Only fish and crayfish are targeted by sampling methods. Other species that were caught and/or observed are listed below:

  • Palaemon australis (South-west glass shrimp)
