Only aquatic biota was assessed, using the standard methods from the South West Index of River Condition.

Fish and crayfish

Eight fish and three crayfish species were found during the assessments:

  • Bostockia porosa (Nightfish)
  • Galaxiella munda (Western mud minnow)
  • Galaxias occidentalis (Western minnow)
  • Nannatherina balstoni (Balston’s pygmy perch)
  • Nannoperca vittata (Western pygmy perch)
  • Pseudogobius olorum (Swan River goby)
  • Gambusia holbrooki (Eastern gambusia)
  • Perca fluviatilis (Redfin perch)
  • Cherax sp. nov. 3
  • Cherax cainii (Smooth marron)
  • Cherax preissii (Koonac)

Cherax sp. nov. 3 is a potential new species yet to be described, morphologically similar to Cherax preissii.

The presence of the western mud minnow is of ecological significance and a conservation priority.

Only fish and crayfish are targeted by sampling methods. Other species that were caught and/or observed are listed below:

  • Palaemon australis (South-west glass shrimp)
  • Hydromys chrysogaster (Rakali), native, semi-aquatic mammal
