Waychinicup River - Waychinicup Road

The condition of the Waychinicup Road site (site code: WR1WAYC1/6020014), in the lower catchment of the Waychinicup River, was assessed between the 17 and 18 December 2025 , over a 100-m length of stream. Only aquatic biota was assessed, using the standard methods from the South West Index of River Condition.

The site was previously reported under site code WR-01/6021617, sampled between 17-18 November 2008. Measures chosen for this assessment included fish and crayfish, macroinvertebrates, aquatic habitat, water quality (dissolved oxygen and temperature logged over 24h, and electrical conductivity, pH, colour, alkalinity, turbidity and nutrients), fringing vegetation, channel morphology, erosion, connectivity, local land use and flow.

Fish and crayfish

Two fish and two crayfish species were found at this site December 2025. No exotic fish or crayfish species were found.

  • Galaxias occidentalis (Western minnow)
  • Nannoperca vittata (Western pygmy perch)
  • Cherax cainii (Smooth marron)
  • Cherax crassimanus (Restricted gilgie)
  • Cherax quinquecarinatus (Gilgie)

Note: only fish and crayfish are targeted by sampling methods, however where other species were caught and/or observed they are included below.

  • Westralunio carteri (Carters freshwater mussel)
