The Ephraim Gully Old site (site code: DR202MANJ9/6081081), was assessed on several occasions:

  • 2-3 May 2023
  • 26-27 November 2024
  • 6-7 March 2025
  • 4-5 March 2026

Only aquatic biota was assessed, using the standard methods from the South West Index of River Condition.

Fish and crayfish

Three fish and one crayfish species were found during the assessments. This is not unexpected as this site remains dry for much of the dry season and the sample was collected immediately after first flows. It is likely that native freshwater fish will move through and forage at this site as the river becomes more connected during the wet season.

  • Galaxiella munda (Western mud minnow)
  • Gambusia holbrooki (Eastern gambusia)
  • Perca fluviatilis (Redfin perch)
  • Cherax preissii (Koonac)

The presence of the western mud minnow is of ecological significance and a conservation priority.

The following species have been observed at nearby sites

  • Bostockia porosa (Nightfish)
  • Hydromys chrysogaster (Rakali), native, semi-aquatic mammal
  • Westralunio carteri (Carter’s freshwater mussel)
  • Palaemon australis (South-west glass shrimp)
