Bickley Brook - Mandarin Road

The condition of the Bickley Brook - Mandarin Road site (site code: BICKBK 07), in the middle catchment of  Bickley Brook was assessed between 18 and 19 October 2016, over a 100-m length of stream. The site was also assessed in spring 2010, 2011, 2012 and autumn 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2016.

The assessment was conducted using standard methods from the South West Index of River Condition. Measures chosen for this assessment included fish and crayfish, macroinvertebrates, aquatic habitat, water quality (dissolved oxygen, temperature, electrical conductivity and pH logged over 24h, and colour, alkalinity, turbidity and nutrients), fringing vegetation, channel morphology, erosion, connectivity, local land use and flow.

This site was assessed as part of the Urban Waterways Renewal  project.

Fish and crayfish

One fish and one crayfish species were found at this site in October 2016, both were exotic. Although no native fish were found, many tadpoles were captured.
