Bickley Brook - Eva Street Upstream

Basin : Swan-Coastal

Catchment : Canning River

The condition of the Bickley Brook - Eva St Upstream site (site code: BICKBKEUS), in the upper catchment of  Bickley Brook was assessed between 13 and 14 October 2016, over a 100-m length of stream. The site was also assessed in spring 2011, 2012 and autumn 2011 and 2013.

The assessment was conducted using standard methods from the South West Index of River Condition. Measures chosen for this assessment included fish and crayfish, macroinvertebrates, aquatic habitat, water quality (dissolved oxygen, temperature, electrical conductivity and pH logged over 24h, and colour, alkalinity, turbidity and nutrients), fringing vegetation, channel morphology, erosion, connectivity, local land use and flow.

Fish and crayfish

Two fish and one crayfish species were found at this site in October 2016, only one of these was native (western minnow)

A list of species is provided at the bottom of the page, click on the images to learn more about each species.

Note: only fish and crayfish are targeted by sampling methods, however where other species were caught and/or observed they are included below.

Notably, only one individual western minnow was found in October 2016. This was similar to previous sampling events where only low numbers (one or two individuals) of western minnow, blue-spot goby, smooth marron and/or gilgie were found.
